Susan Breen Bailey
died on October 3, 2019 at home after a year of cancer treatment. She was a 40-year resident of rural Festus and loved the people and the beauty of Jefferson County. For most of her life she was a full-time homemaker, mother, and church volunteer although she had degrees in chemistry, medicine, and counseling. She was a long time member of 1st United Methodist Church and, later, of Wesley United Methodist Church. In 2009, she was confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was devoted to the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. She loved attending daily mass and weekly adoration chapel in her parish and a monthly rosary prayer cenacle at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Perryville.
Born May 28, 1950, in Buffalo, New York, she was the youngest child of the late Alvin Breen and Frances Fritz Breen.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years: David J. Bailey; three children: Jon (Minsun Kim) Bailey of Seoul, South Korea; Elisabeth Bailey, and Judith Bailey, both of Festus; two siblings: Bonita (David) Milby of Perkins, Oklahoma, and Richard (Jean) Breen of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; one aunt: Gussie (the late Robert) Fritz of Louisiana, Missouri; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Visitation 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, October 11, 2019 at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus. Funeral Mass to be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Sacred Heart Church in Crystal City, Missouri, officiated by Fr. Gan Nguyen C.Ss.R. Interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City. Memorials preferred to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Education Fund of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crystal City.
