Robert Edward 'Bob' Howard, Sr.

   Robert Howard, Sr. age 93 of Festus, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019 at Mercy Hospital South in South St. Louis County, Missouri. He was born October 14, 1925 in Modoc, Illinois, the son of the late Ruby Mae (nee Hazzard) and Jesse Lee Howard.
   In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Betty Jane (nee Self) Howard; sisters Helen (the late Art) Pilliard, and Lucille (the late Wayne) Thomas; brother John (the late Billie) Howard; brothers-in-law Robert Frances "Bob" (the late Esther) Self, Sr., Eugene (the late Opal) Self, and Floyd B. (the late Genevieve) Self, Jr.; and sisters-in-law Vivian (Wayne survives of Festus) Williams, and Shirley Basler.
   He is survived by daughter Diane Howard of Festus; son Robert E. (Pamela) Howard, Jr. of Festus; grandchildren Carrie Jane Howard of St. Louis, Missouri, and Michael Clinton (Becky Kelley) Howard of Festus; great-granddaughter Makayla Howard; brothers-in-law Edwin (Ruth Ann) Self of Festus, Richard (Vera) Self of Valles Mines, Missouri, and Leo (Elizabeth) Self of Branson, Missouri; and sisters-in-law Anna (the late Barnard) Axtetter of Festus, Joy Schweigert of Festus, Loretta Self of Festus, Eileen (Harold) Peterein of Festus; and numerous nieces and nephews.
   He was a Navy Veteran of WWII; co-owner/operator of Axtetter and Howard Hauling and Excavating in Festus; and member of Our Lady Church in Festus, VFW #3777, American Legion #253, and Knights of Columbus #1230. Bob loved working outdoors, trout fishing, and reading about his favorite western character "Smoke Jensen".
   Memorial Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 17, 2019 at Our Lady Church in Festus, officiated by Fr. Gregory Klump of Our Lady Church. Inurnment at a later date in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Memorials in his memory are preferred to American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
