Robert I. 'Chops' Lalumondier

   Robert Lalumondier age 96, of Crystal City passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Crystal Oaks Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born in Crystal City July 14, 1922 the son of the late August Louis "Gus" and Blanche Mary (LaRose) Lalumondier.
   He loved sports, was an avid fan of the Cardinals, and was himself an outstanding baseball player with the Twin City Reds of the Ozark Baseball League and also a member of the 4-time League Champion Vinyard's softball team in the 1950's. An all-around athlete, at CCHS he was a champion sprinter in track and field, setting Mineral Area records in the 220 and 440 dashes. His 880 relay team set a Class B state record in 1939. He was also a star halfback in football at both CCHS and at Tarkio College before joining the US Navy during WWII. He served aboard the USS Charles J. Badger in the Europe-Africa and the Asian-Pacific Theaters of Operations and was honorably discharged in 1946.
   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Naomi "Cookie" (Cook) Lalumondier. Also preceding him in death were sisters: Ada (the late Stanley) Marler, Hilda B. (the late Raymond) Fults, Thelma P. Lalumondier, brothers Adam (the late Corinne) Lalumondier and John (Jacqueline) Lalumondier and a grand-daughter Rae Lynn Lalumondier. He is survived by three sons: Steven (Bobette) Lalumondier of Hillsboro, David (Karen) Lalumondier of Festus, and Jeffrey (Patty) Lalumondier of Decatur, IL.
   Also surviving are 7 grandchildren Lori (John) Thiel of Sharon, PA, Kristine Branham of Festus, Robert Lalumondier of Ashburn, VA, Jonathon (Lesley) Lalumondier of Festus, Kami (Shaun) Bower of Grove City, OH, Megan (Brent) Cahill of Hilliard, OH and Erin (Luke) Meese of Festus, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.
   He was retired from PPG Industries in 1985 after 44 years of service, mostly in the Wareroom. He was a life member of several organizations: BPOE #1721, Fraternal Order of Eagles #4341, American Legion Post #253. and VFW #3777.
   Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home and will be private. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Crystal City. with Pastor Joseph Skiles of Solid Rock Family Church of Jefferson City officiating. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
