   Michael Sardo , age 85, of Festus, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, Missouri. He was born December 2, 1931 in Laurelton, Long Island, New York, the son of the late Theresa (nee Barberi) and Joseph Sardo.
   He is survived by his wife Louise (nee Scotti) Sardo; sons Joseph Michael (Laura) Sardo of Springfield, Missouri, John Christopher Sardo of Festus, and James Steven (Kathy) Sardo of Festus; grandchildren Joseph A. (Nicole) Sardo, Rachel (Andres) Lara, Emily Sardo, Annamarie Jolee Sardo, and Nikki Rae Sardo; and great-grandchildren Evelyn Louise Sardo, Henry Joseph Sardo, and Edward Michael Sardo.
   Mike, along with Louise, was the founder and director of the Jefferson County Rescue Mission in Pevely, Missouri. While living in New York City he was a "big band" trombone player and furniture salesman, and developed a love for classical music and animals. He authored several poetry books, two science-fiction novels and a book of essays, and was a longtime member and Paul Harris Fellow in the Festus-Crystal City Rotary Club, and member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Festus.
   Visitation from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus. Funeral services 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 4, 2017 at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor John Piet of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Festus. Interment in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Pevely, Missouri. Memorials in his memory are preferred to the Jefferson County Rescue Mission.
